Monuments...

How man does love a Monument, a memory set in stone,
To call to mind some noble deed, ensure that tribute's shown
For man would always seek to show, of person, place, or thing,
Those attributes which did excell, inspire; rememberance bring.

And here-in do we humans err, in thinking on what's done;
Our thoughts can't help what's gone before, our hope's in what's to come.
What good is tribute to what's past? Such things are beyond need;
The only purpose they could serve... to guide a future deed.

Since life is short, we can't afford, to dwell upon the past;
Our only hope: direct our steps, before the die is cast.
So God has used memorials to prompt rememerance, guide,
That we might recollect his Grace, and in His Truth abide.

The memory of those gone before, inspires our hearts anew,
But there's no profit even then, unless His will we do.
Our hearts, inspired, must turn aside from sin and seek His face;
Redeem the time, seek guidance for, where future steps are placed!
