Honoring the rich heritage of the tuba and euphonium, OCTUBAFEST was
established in Octuba, 1973. Format of the first
OCTUBAFEST (held at the Indiana University School of Music) was a series of
five public recitals showcasing the solo and ensemble repertoire for tuba and
euphonium. Following the recital series an OCTUBAFEST was hosted at TUBARANCH
(Carol and Harvey Phillips' home) with the public invited be entertained by
tubas and euphoniums, plus all manner of musical ensembles (often including
German bands, guitars, fiddles, banjos, etc.). Each year the format varies
slightly.
